It does not and that is the dirty little secret neither CNN nor Fox want you to know because if you do, you will turn off the rubbish and stop yelling at each other.
Each and every tenet of your belief that they convince you is under siege is fallacy.
An example, the Second Amendment. The debate regarding the second amendment is sadly hilarious. A long time ago, we all accepted that there were certain acceptable limitations on the right to bear arms. Examples: convicted felons do not have the right to own a weapon. We also accepted that there are some 'arms' that do not belong in the hands of average civilians. As such, we accepted that the 'right' can be limited.
So, the argument has NEVER been about whether we have an uninfringed right to bear arms, but where we draw the line.Guess what? That's not sexy. That does not get viewers and that does not get advertisers. So the 'news' media sells you this bill of goods - that someone is trying to take away a right you already have - which is simply not accurate. The debate is not about the right to bear arms, it is about where the lines for ownership are drawn.
Despite this reality, most people will simply buy into whichever media outlet's message to which they ascribe because it is too late for most of us to stop yelling and start discussing; to do so would make us feel as if we had 'lost' something.
I think we 'lost' something a long time ago - our souls. The moment we let commentators tell us how to feel; to create an anger that otherwise did not exist; we lost the soul of dialogue. And, until we can begin conversing without vitriolic screaming, we will continue to falter. Not just as a nation, but as a species.
