First, the comparison of human beings from around the world to a bowl of Skittles (or any other generic multi-colored bowl of anything) is ludicrous on its face. This is not an analogy or simile or any other comparative tool because it is not readily equitable to the message Trump is attempting to convey.
Break it down: Trump is saying that in a large group of anything, if you know for a fact that a certain specific people are going to kill you, would you allow them close to you? And, of course, the answer to that is, "of course not."
But do you see how he twists it? You see, we do not know for a fact that someone from Afghanistan is going to do anything. We know that, theoretically speaking, and statistically speaking, there is a chance that someone born in Afghanistan could potentially commit a heinous crime. So his solution is to stop all people from Afghanistan from entering the United States. So. By his analogy, he is not asking if we would eat the bowl, he is saying “If you know that there are potentially some green skittles that might be poisoned (or might not be, there is really no way to tell) would you make the manufacturing of green skittles illegal?”
Folks, newsflash, every day there are potential threats to our existence. There have been since the dawn of time. The protectionism that Trump is selling will not, and I repeat NOT, make you any safer. In fact, it will endanger your lives more. When you live in constant fear, you are not living.
The most recent attack happened by an American citizen. He had been living in this country since before 9/11 – so how would keeping certain nations out have prevented this? It would not. That’s what Trump and his minions want to hide from; the truth. The truth is that violence is an epidemic of the individual and not systemic to a religion or nationality. If you know this truth, the rhetoric is nothing more than the sounds of a babbling brook. As long as you keep your eyes closed to the truth, and let fear control your mind, your mind has no value.
